Maruti Suzuki teases us with a video of the BS6 Ignis facelift, just ahead of its official launch at the ongoing 2020 Auto Expo
Maruti Suzuki India Ltd is all set to launch a mid-life facelift version of the Ignis at the 2020 Auto Expo tomorrow. Ahead of the launch, the Japanese carmaker has released a teaser video of the upcoming car featuring a glowing silhouette of the car’s headlamps and the new front grille.
As reported by us earlier, the upcoming Ignis facelift will feature certain cosmetic updates over the outgoing model, in order to redefine the car as a proper crossover. The car has already been spied undisguised a couple of times before, confirming the design changes as compared to the pre-facelift version.
The refreshed Ignis will sport a new grille up front, integrated with U-shaped chrome inserts, just like the current-gen Vitara Brezza SUV. The car will also come equipped with faux skid plates on both the ends, which will help the tallboy hatch appear butch. Inside the cabin, we expect Maruti to offer new seat upholstery and interior colour scheme, along with its Smartplay Studio 2.0 infotainment system.

Powering the upcoming Ignis facelift will be the same 1.2-litre four-cylinder K12B petrol engine as the outgoing model. However, the motor will be now BS6-compliant. The said engine comes mated to either a 5-speed manual transmission or a 5-speed AMT. It has a maximum power output of 83 PS at 6,000 rpm, along with a 113 Nm of peak torque at 4,200 rpm.
Upon its arrival, the 2020 Ignis facelift will continue to compete against the likes of Mahindra KUV100, Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, Maruti Suzuki Swift, among other hatchbacks currently sold in the Indian market.

Recently, Maruti Suzuki also revealed a mid-cycle update for the Vitara Brezza at the same event, which saw the India’s highest-selling sub-compact SUV get a new BS6-compliant K15B SHVS 1.5-litre petrol engine. The motor has been tuned to produce 104.7 PS of maximum power and 138 Nm of peak torque. Apart from the new powertrain, the car also gets minor cosmetic updates in order to keep the SUV looking fresh.
